    Hi I'm setting up a 125g tank its an upgrade From a 55g on the 55 I have a 6 bulb t5ho someone is selling a 3x 150w mh 4x 96w PC fixture would this be good for a 125g reef I have mostly lps and softies now but in the future I do want to get a clam or two

    If you look around the "Show off Your Tank" forum, you'll see a lot of sps corals and clams thriving very nicely under 4 and 6-bulb T5 light fixtures. The PC would be a downgrade from T5, and the MH lights use a lot of electricity and generate a lot of heat.

    maybe i should clarify im not buying the mh unit new its used and im not even really paying for it the guy im getting it from is doing a trade for an mp40 and a couple bucks and i get the lighting so with that being said is that light a good fixture for what i asked?

    Personally, I don't think you'll be happy with the PC side, as the bulbs are fairly expensive and short-lived (need to replace every 6 months).

    However, this post is a BUMP for someone with more knowledge/experience in metal halide lighting. :)

    The MH lighting will not get enough light to the bottom of the tank for corals. You will be able to keep clams on the tops of the rocks. You really need 250W MH to get to the sand in your tank.

    hah its funny i talked to the guy and he made a mistake it actually is a 3x 250W system so im definately getting it now Thanks for the help guys

    got another question the bulbs now are about 6-7 months old so im going to order new bulbs should i get the stock bulbs of 10k or maybe 14k? which is better
