Lightining simulation - beneficial?

    It was just an idea. The light would come from white LED's. It would be a very quick, single strobe, or maybe a combination of 2-3 quick single strobes as you would see during a typical storm. I'll save myself the work and not do it, as you've all pretty well agreed there's no benefit.

    this has got me curious as to how a strobe light would look. probably freak everything out, but might be neat to see things in "slow motion"

    I'm not trying to discourage the idea really just don't think there's much actual benefit. There's nothing wrong with having a cool effect on your tank, and with LEDs it's definitely possible but I think you would need a good number of them which may not be cheap. Look into Profilux controllers, if you use them with some LED fixtures they actually have a lightning storm program you can use to have storms randomly, or you can just trigger them when you want to.
