What kind of fish, what size (dimensions) of the tank, and what kind of corals do you want to keep?

Depends on the length of the tank, but a normal shop light type fixture will work, you would just want like one plant grow bulb and a actinic to make the tank look nice.

a good blue look huh? that will be tough considering i dont really know any good blue lights beside blacklight(bad for fishes eyes so no,no)

have you considered using t5 or pc or vho lights, like a reef tank but just with less wattage(so alot cheaper). personally i think this would be the best suggestion.

you could always just do NO(regular flourescent) with aquarium bulbs.

since your want a blue look i think your stuck with specialty bulbs what ever you do.
i suppose you could do led, but tangster could advise you better then i in that
:gossip: they say he can tell his ph and salinity just by taste.;D

A cheap set of T5's from aquatraders would do nicely. Edit, they probably don't have any for a tank of that size.

Are you building a canopy? If you are doing a canopy just use a few T5 retrofits you can find online. T5's are nice and bright and will illuminate your tank nicely, you just don't have to worry about high intensity since you're not doing corals.

Just get some used PC lights.. The tank will look pretty ugly with regular spectrum bulbs. I t will look dirty and yellow.. I hooked up my two 500 watt shop lights above the tank it it look very yellow.
