Best thing is if you can get the new tank filled & cycled before taking down the old one. Is this an option?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Whenever you start a new tank, even with a sand bed, live cured rock, a running fuge assume you will have a cycle of some degree.

Marshall makes an excellent recommendation of running the new tank at least a couple days prior to moving stuff over.

Have plenty of made up SW.

Keep in mind water flow as well. You may need a bigger pump. Lighting as well. I believe when you move the sand over your parameters in both tanks will be off. You can always buy a few bags of sand to get started then I'm not sure if you can bleach your old sand and reuse it. Someone else may want to answer that question.

I would use new sand if possible. If the old sand is three years old, it is going to have a lot of nasty stuff in it that you don't want in your new tank. If you need to use your old sand, I'd suggest rinsing it till the water runs clear first, then adding it. New sand would be the way to go IMHO, just to save time and hassle.

+1 to adding new sand. You can get regular non live sand and seed it with the live rock and even just by adding a cup or 2 of your existing live sand. Adding sand that old may cause issues because when you add it it will dislodge all the built up organics and cause some issues with high parameters. IMPE.
