get a couple of peppermint shrimp-4 or 5. they will take care of it with nooooo problem. i had a sneaking up aptasia problem in my 48 gallon reef and got 10 of those peppermint shrimp from reefs 2 go and in a week problem was solved. probably half of them back to my lfs to trade for something else, but have had aptasia problems off and on my whole 20 year reefing career and can attest that the pep shrimp do the job!

Stay away from bleach. I beg of thee. It's not good for anything. Boiling water, and vinegar. Hell, boil vinegar and dump that sucker in there.

    Or

Take the rock back, and demand a refund. If he won't get you cash back, get store credit. Be adamant. 55# of rock is worth a lot of coral and fish.

That's a bummer man. If the lfs is selling that as live rock I'd be very upset to get that kind of rock. Too bad all their rock is likely infested with it & everyone's gonna buy it unknowingly. Good thing you caught it early on.

unfortunately refund isn't an option around here - where I live, LFS dont come under consumer protection.

yup, lucky I dumped it in the bucket overnight and saw this - the worms should have given it away when i spotted a few before I bought them but he convinced me they were good for the tank

Ima stay positive about this (@#$%!!!!!!!)
killing the rocks and i'll build my aquascape, start from scratch - the tank will just grow up looking better and stay healthy

vinegar?? thats it? that will kill everything on the rocks?

Stay out of that LFS for sure...they suck...I can tell by the rock alone. If you dont have alternatives close by...start looking on line...you will be better off. If they will sell you rock like that...not telling what else they will try to sell to you.

Look, I'm not sure you need to storm in and start yelling or anything of the sort. I can't imagine that you wouldn't go in and nicely point out to them what they sold you is unacceptable and to take it back. Every store around here, including the unpleasant ones, would.

As for consumer protection, do you live in the U.S?

Worms are a fantastic part of any ecosystem. I wouldn't worry about those. It's not the last time you'll see them when purchasing rock. The aptasia is the issue here.

I did - I've been there once before I started this thread. I was very polite and I scared off a few of his customers (unintentionally) who were looking for LR. When I pointed out they refused to believe me and said their rocks just have worms no aiptasia.

At the store, the other rocks also had worms, but it wasn't easy finding aiptasia at a glance since they were all out of water.

I don't live in the US.
I'm in UAE - some funny laws here.

I'm still looking for the simplest way to either kill aiptasia alone or kill everything on the rock asap so I can build my aquascape.

I do have a copperband in the display tank if I could use that in any way, but I wouldn't want to put the infested rocks in my tank
