    Me, I'd toss it and start over with base rock.

    Thank you - I assume I'll have to be very careful not to pick up anything else except purple?
    the amount of worms on the rocks is just crazy, getting past them will be a battle!

    Terrbile news...I would return the rock. Demand a refund because you did not pay for live rock only to kill it and start over. The best way to start your tank would be to use base rock and get a small piece of live rock from a local reefer that has the coralline you want in your tank. Use that "clean" rock and scrape off the coralline you have growing on it into your tank. Once you have the spores in the water you simply have to wait to get some of it growing on your rocks. Maintain your parameters and you'll have fairly fast growth after that.
