Well I've had my live rock in the system for 2 and a half weeks now, if i remove it from the water it fills the room up with a gagable smell! like rotten eggs lol.

Just wanted to know if this is normal in the curing/cycling process? and will it always give of an unlawful smell?

    Cheers

Yes, LR while curing smells horrible. Not sure what makes its smell, but does it smell. :)

The smell is most likely from dead flesh rotting. Increase your flow to disturb the surface more for better gas exchange might help move the process along faster.

The bad smell is from curing process. Cured live rock has a sweet aroma; very nice.

Also, if it was actually live rock, aquacultured or fully cured, you may have dead sponges and things that need to get pulled off.

This means your live rock is uncured. It is normal in the curing process. Once your rock smells of the ocean and not of rotten eggs, then it should be cured.

If the tank smells even when the rock is under water, you can add some granular activated carbon to remove the smell.

    thanks for all you replys.

My ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels are almost all at 0. SO in a week or so I will hopefully add a CUC and they will go to town on the LR ;)
