loaded sump question

    do i need the overflow box or can i just use an overflow u-tube?

    You need a box, otherwise you'll just keep siphoning out water from the tank, even if the return pump stops for any reason.

    The siphon also won't work at the speed of the pump in that scenario; it'll just do it's own thing, and likely outpace the pump.

    You can get away without using an inside box if you build it for your specific needs, but the outer box is an absolute must.

    I would go with the drilled option, though, since the tank isn't even filled yet. They're foolproof compared to siphon overflows.

    cant tempered glass. after alot of thinking about it, i think for now im just going to skip the sump idea. im still fairly new to this and am very limited on money. i cant set up my new tank until i build a stand first so it might be some time. gotta save up lol. thanks to all who answered and tried to help i learned alot.
