    Hello

A guy sent me this picture of a pair of clownfish that is supposedly true percs from ORA. Is this a false or true? and if so what is the black spots all over the body? I know that clownfish have a disease that is black specs all over the body. Any comment?

there is a disease called black ick (i think that's mostly with tangs). i have heard of spots on clowns that fade as the fish gets older. i'm sure someone will be more knowledgeable than i am about this but i THINK spots can occur on percs. the second picture is a miss bar i don't know if that is desirable or not. here's what i DO know, if you are doubtful about a fish, i would not buy it until you see first hand the guy swimming and eating well. second, if you buy that fish, quarantine him until you're sure he's ok

Those are mis bar false percs, aka Ocellaris clowns. Now as to the black spots, I am no pro at the disease thing, but I know brookynella (sp) is common on clowns.

after doing further research i come to find out that the black dots look as if they came from coral stings and the pigment has just changed color as a reaction to the sting. The seller is asking 50 for the pair, is it worth it? Does the misbar make a difference in price?

here is the link, how about a second opinion?

good deal.. Make sure they are eating and swimming around in a healthy fashion. I know mis bar percs go for more on the market and I personally prefer them to regular..

LOL... I am still not convinced if it is whether they are true perc or false osc... Looking at the ORA site, which he claimed they came from, the picture shows the same misbar true perc. From the pictures on ORA, the black trace around the while lines of the false are larger than the true percs

I'm no expert on clowns either, but I have seen pics of them with those black spots when they are in the process of hosting an anemone. After the hosting process was done, the spots went away. That could be what's going on here, but like I said I'm no expert so I could be wrong.

IME, mis bars go for less than normal clowns. Now if they are picasso's or really odd, then they go for more $$.

Yeah, I looked at some ORA misbar true percs at my LFS yesterday and I doubted if these were false percs as well.

I now think these are true perc mis bars, and fwiw, the ORA misbar true percs were less $$ than the ORA true perc "regular bars".

I know that direct from ORA that the mis bars go for less $$ than the std ones.
