I have had this since the beginning of my tank one of the fist lps that I had bought and it has done great. I watched it grow from 3 heads to over 30. Over the last few months I have seen this large air pocket or something getting larger. I put up a post a few months back and was told it was splitting. I know what it looks like when it splits. I watched it grow.
Anyway does anyone have any other ideas what is going on? I circled the mouths of what were individual heads in black. The yellow circles are where the flesh is ripping. All of the heads in black are connected.
I really need an answer to this as I am starting to get concerned. Should I try to frag off the piece? (Easier said than done) this is attached to a large piece of rock that has a large red monti attached to it. I added a pic of what it looks like without the great art of mine and one with.

Wow, that is weird. Looks like you had some kind of mutation or something; like something went wrong with the growth process on that head.

I would frag it off if it starts to affect the rest of the coral. Instead of taking the rock out, could you possibly get some of those coral shears and clip it under water?

Looks like it might be getting ready to drop polyps (asexual reproduction).

    Thanks for the replies.
I didnt know they were capable of asexual reproduction such as dropping polyps. I will need to look into that.

I don't know what it is that is happening but I wouldn't worry too much about it until you see something that is definite damage or definitely wrong.

It looks weird to me and I would continue trying to research, but don't panic, don't frag it, don't worry until you know for sure what's happening, chances are it'll be fine. :)

looks like a melting old man...

I have these red blasto's. It started getting some weird skeletal growth that looked like a tumor growing up between the heads.

I ended up cutting that off and the heads around it came back to their normal shape...

Anyway, I'm wondering, what does this look like when the heads retract? Is the skeleton growing weird underneath or is this just the polyps kind of hanging?

I didn't know these could drop polyps either... not confirming or denying that.

Thaks again. I feel it is fairly healthy although it doesnt look it, because it ate some small bits of shrimp that I cut up. I feed the coral 2x a week, each head gets some shrimp and it ate it with no problem, even though there are very few of the tenticles that come out around it.

It look's weird, maybe it just did'nt split right. And maybe going asexual. I just think they did'nt split right for some reason. Has it produced any more head's since it started looking like this? I would'nt worry about it. I see no known illness on it. I like it!
