Lugols Dip Question

I just have one or two small frags of coral to dip and was wondering how many drops of Lugols to use for a cup or two of tank water?
i have read that about 40 drops per gallon of tank water works but i dont want to use anywhere near that much. was wondering if i just used like 2 cups of water i could just use like 5 drops of lugols?
would this be ok?

bump. i'm curious too and also don't feel like doing the math myself

 

theres 16 cups in a gallon. so if you do 2 cups of water , 5 drops of lugols is the right number.

 

i just put drops in until it is tea colored! I usually dip it right in the bag that it came in. I have even once or twice had the store add it to the bag and then that way it soaks while i am on the way home

 

5 drops sounds good, I would premix it first though. If you don't, there will be areas of very strong iodine concentration which damage or kill parts of the coral.

 

By premixing it, you mean add the coral after adding the lugols to the water in the container you are performing the dip in..... correct?

 

yeah definately...dont add the lugols to water once the coral is in there
