I've seen some threads on various forums concerning this doing a google search. But none of the them seem to have a clear answer or conclusion.

My Harptail Blenny has been in my DT for approx three weeks. He looked fine at first, but lately his belly looks lumpy. I thought is was food because if seems more pronounced after he eats.

He doesn't really eat a lot compared to his takemate, a Mystery Wrasse. The first couple of weeks he swam around quite a bit. But lately he found himself a rock with a notch in it that he just sits in and looks around for most of the day until I feed the tank.

I'm new to marine. What can this be? Is this behavior common with Blennies? Thanks

I can't seem to get a picture of him now. He is hiding all the time. Any guesses?

In my experience blennies love rocks and small crevices to hide in,I have a lawnmower blenny and he's most active only at feeding time and right before I turn the lights out in the evening, perhaps yours needs a buddy of some sort, for mine he tends to follow a cleaner shrimp, not sure what the bumps in the belly are maybe pregnant..

When I first bought my Yellowtail Fang blenny she looked just like that (I considered her a rescue) however after a couple of weeks of good food which means good pooping she's 100% normal looking. No more bumpy pinched looking belly :) Try some Spirulina flakes, spinach even. Fish that are under weight will look like this too. Especially after they eat.

Well, bad news. Lenny the Blenny didn't make it. I'm still uncertain what was wrong with him (or her). He didn't seem malnourished up until he stopped eating a few days ago. He was acting very lethargic this evening and then... I never saw any signs of ick, just a lumpy belly, then hiding and not eating, then lethargic, then... in about a weeks time.

His life was not without meaning. I went out a purchased a quarantine tank tonight. From now on, all fish are going to be quarantined before the DT. It will proudly bestow the name St. Lenny's Hospital.

R.I.P. little guy (or gal) Your personality will be missed, but never forgotten.

could have been sometype of parasites or worms. A lot of blennies will have worms in the wild. These worms can often be treated with Metrodiazole added to their food. Unfortunately though, it sounds like he an advanced case and it would have been too late for it (if that was what he had)
    sorry for your loss!
