HOB overflow is good solid advice, especially if you aren't sure if it's tempered or not.

lubricants?? The water is the lubricant for any pump.. You never want to run a pump dry. I have a mag 7 which pumps 700gph, that runs my protein skimmer. Mag is pretty simple to figure the gph. Mag 5 will be 500gph as a 9.5 will be 950gph

Here is there website that I received from a fellow 3reef user.

Drilling a thin glass tank is tricky, but easier if you clamp a piece of wood behind the glass to keep the pressure from breaking it. If you already have the tank filled, you can drill it still, it's not that hard, I did it to my 20G tank. You just need to use a slower RPM setting on the drill, use a diamond bit hole saw, and use a spray bottle to keep the bit and glass wet and cool. I wrapped the tank with a towel to keep the water from getting all over the stand. When you cut glass, actually it's grinding it, it will get pulverized into an EXTREMELY fine powder, which is actually sand. Tape off the inside of the tank to keep the water and sand mixure from getting inside the tank (if you are drilling it already stocked), or to keep the hole from dropping and possibly breaking the other side of the tank. This is all assuming you are drilling a tank wall. If you are drilling the bottom, make sure it is not tempered. I would suggest supporting the glass with wood behind where you are drilling in either case, it will help prevent tearout and chipping on the glass when the bit breaks through.

I have several Danner Mag Drive pumps in various GPH ranges. I have used them for over 10 years with no problems. They run cool and make very little to no noise at all.
