    I have a mag 5 and I'm wanting to change out the impeller to lower the flow. I want to get an impeller for a mag 3. First, they are interchangeable right? Also, where would I find one? Every impeller i find says mag 3-5 or 3&5 or something like that.

    They might use the same impeller but im not sure, you can slow flow quite easily without changing the impeller. Use a ball or gate valve on the output line to slow the flow.

    Correct; swapping the impeller won't do anything for you if they're interchangeable. You'll still have the same amount of flow.

    I see, the mag 5 and 7 are able to change flow with just a different impeller. How can I tell if Im restricting thebflow enough? I bought the mag 5 for my 40 breeder thinking I wanted more flow and now realize its more than I really need.
