    Sweet. Iv been dosing coral vite. Guessing thats how my level got so high. I think Ill just does that enough to keep my mag level there and take the mag supplement back to the store.

    This is a piece of the description of Kent Marine's Coral Vite;
    Description:
    Kent Coral-Vite is the premium hard & soft coral vitamin & mineral supplement. It provides exotic trace minerals and complex nutrients for health and vigor and to stimulate growth in corals.

    I dont know how big your tank is or which and how many corals you have, but that might not be enough as a supplement.

    From what I've read, there's no one 'optimum' level. I learned here on 3reef to keep my Mg at 3.25x my Ca. For me, that's Ca 440 and Mg 1430. I don't think this is an exact formula ;) but keeping these targets has worked great for me.

    I dose daily (test weekly) and try to keep my numbers close to this. (Alk sits at 12 dKH)

    I have also been informed that a mag level as high at 1500 ppm is a good preventative measure against GHA - as GHA and other nuisance algaes dont prosper at these elevated mag levels
