I tried putting another clown fish straight in the tank with the misbared one that has been in there since I bought the tank. Well after about a day of the older clown chasing the new around biting him I took him back. Well, here we are again. Im determined to make my clown pair up so I bought a new clown and the breeder tank to keep him in until the other fish establishes itself. I know this wont work 100% of the time but I want a pair and my current clown is unique and has too much personality. How long do I have to keep him in the breeder tank?? Also, do I need to hook up the air hose to the tank or will he be alright(breeder tank has slits in it)?

Fish are not like dogs- they won't settle for a partner just because it's the only other one of their kind in the tank. If your established female ever does, it will still require a fair amount of bullying as she establishes dominance over the new male.

This is just a method that I have seen work in the past so I thought I would try it. Its better to be safe than sorry....

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    No extra air needed.

I like your plan, but I might have gone with a tad smaller new clown, some noticeable difference between in size between the established female and hopefully the sexually immature male.

I would give the established clown 2 to 3 days and mix up the rock a little to make her seek or think about new territories.
