Male clown to female

    I was wondering how long it takes for a male clownfish to turn into a female when it's alone. I'm selling my female and may be getting a different kind but not sure when.

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Some say anywhere from 3 to 6 months. It does not happen over night, how long the process takes is probably variable on environmental factors.

    My personal experience has been about 3 months and really no longer, they were not spawning females though.

    In my experience it happened before 3 months. Also in my experience there really is no way to tell a male changes to female except he/ she gets bigger. However long it takes it is in the best interest to get a small juvenile because even if it is still a male there is no guarantee that they will pair up.
