Mandarins are strictly carnivores, they do not eat algae.

To answer this discussion. Mandarins may eat tigger pods. But, tigger pods are a cold-water species. Therefore, they will never establish a proper breeding population within the tank and are a poor choice for a mandarin. A healthy mandarin can go through a bottle of pods in a week or less. So the problem with buying pods is that if they were all strictly purchased, you could now be looking at literally hundreds of dollars of food; even per month. I think the the real question of this thread that needs to be answered is exactly how old the tank is; or if OP is capable of setting up a stand-alone system specifically for cultivating pods.

Add some Herpacticoid Copepods and wait a few weeks. These are very high in Omega 3

Add Marine Snow and Phyto Feast to feed the pods.... about 2 ml everyday. The mandarin will do better of you have a nice population of copepods.

You have a lot of live rock so they will be extremely helpul in maintaining a healthy population.

I have a green mandarin, its superfat.

Tiger Pods are not the ones you want. They will die off in your tank.

I got mine from this guy on ebay . I bought the 5000 pod culture. I was really pleased with them. I actually bought 2 x 5000 bottles to seed my live rock. Watch the video on that ebay link.

These are the Herpacticoid Copepods- the small ones in the picture

The big ones are Munnid Isopods or Amphipods.

2,500 Live Copepods + Macro Algae Seahorse Food - eBay (item 290272920603 end time Feb-02-09 21:19:24 PST)

When you order them, just remember that the outside temperature and delivery time will effect the shipment. I ordered mine, once in spring and once in fall.

I made a video of the copepods in my tank. I'll make a new thread in a few hours.

I would wait 4 weeks after adding the copepods to add a Mandarin.

With a six line in the tank already you just have to make sure there is plenty of food there because they will compete for the same food source.
