Good day all, I bought a madering goby 4 weeks ago and only had it for 1 hour!!! long story short It met my carpet nem and that was the end. So here is my question my wife has been bugging me for another (the first one was for her but she never got to see it) I have a 20 gallon (L) fug. and my plan is to section of a portion of the fuge with egg crate or an acctuall aquarium divider and put a new manderin in. I have "culp..." however it is spelled and cheato lol. I am thinking section the fug horizontally so water still flows through my algea and so you will be able to see the lil guy once he is in his new home. Is this a pipe dream? or could this work?
    thanks guys/gals

... it might work for a while.
The Fuge is often used as your "pod factory" for a mandarin. You'll have to periodically seed it with pods bought from a LFS or online.

You will likely run into a problem of the mandarin wiping out the pods and then going hungry.

To make it successful you'll have to constently replenish the fuge with a mix of pods, AND they'll then need time to grow and populate it so it's really an uphill battle.

If you could build a smaller pod fuge above your current fuge (think of a hang on style fuge) that you keep seeded with pods which would then spill into the mandarins fuge - that could work since the mandarin wouldn't have access to the "pod factory" area so to speak...

I think that's the idea behind the egg crate divider.

    I see.

I'm certainly not the Tang Police but it kinda sucks for him space wise - between the skimmer and the return sections - I assume - he'll be calling a 5 gal tank his home... Oh well, as long as he's fat, he'll be happy!

...or you could trade in the carpet, just saying... ;D

You are correct, egg crate or any other divider I just happened to have extra egg crate at the time, my plan would be to train him on frozen food or pellets eventually.

Sounds like a great individual for a species tank....never saw the draw of those myself - they just sit there looking stupid until something touches them, then gulp - back to sitting still! ;D Sounds like it is pretty expensive to feed 20-$30 per meal ::) ;D

it does get old...real quick lol I was thankfull i dindt have to shell out an arm and a leg for the nudi branch pair.....thanks to friends lol
I think the reason I keep the carpet (i have two, one being occupied full time by a mean cinimon clown!!!) Is that they were my first tank inhabitants...and its been awesome watching them grow to huge sizes. I have noticed after that specific nem ate my livestock he will not get as big as the other one anymore (9 inches fully open)

I have seen plans for a specimine container (think fish store, they net your friend then put them into one) mod to be a fuge/pod HQ. Small holes drilled in the bottom and sides allow natural waterflow, and allowing pods to leave to feed the lil guy
