I ordered a bunch of macro and mangroves from reefcleaners and I'm trying to get it all setup. The mangroves don't have any roots yet and are just the pods. Do I need to put the bottom of the mangrove touching the sand, or just hang them in the tank and let them grow down? Can I put the whole mangrove under water? And advice on this would be appreciated. I have 20 of them. But some will be going to the neighbor once he gets his tank going.

Also, my new tank is only a month old, and probably hasn't completely cycled yet. We also added about 40lbs of more sand a week ago. We have been adding PH booster to get it at 8.3, but will macro be ok in the tank right now? I go chaeto, Caulerpa Prolifera, and Red Gracilaria. The sump is 55g so has a lot of room.
    Thanks!

For the mangroves the leaves are suppose to be above the water. As for adding them to the tank before the full cycle might not be a good idea.

the top green part with the little tip is what needs to be above the water. Ideally, 1/2- 2/3 of the seed should be above the water. But really as long as you have an inch or two above you should be fine.

Float them in styrofoam. Allows you to keep their roots trimmed before they grow in the sand bed and possibly popping a seam in the corner of your tank.

i just tossed my last 2 out of five in the fuge water and they sprouted fine. When I was 'trying' to keep the 5 seed pods alive i had no luck they were dropping like flies. Also raise your MG and they will thank you for it.

THanks for all the tips guys. And the picture was helpful.

One more thing. My Red Gracilaria isn't looking so good. When they came in the mail they were pretty red. Now some of the stems are turning white. Is this typical or are they going down hill?
