yeah I know it's not really about mangroves so much but he does end up growing them in the built-in fuge area. Living in FL I'd really like to grow some mangroves myself...

Looks like Reef Cleaners has a small write up on growing mangroves. It's possible you could ask John for some nice info. He sells them as well.

Stupid question, but are the mangroves normally for sale the ones you see in Florida?

I grow them. I have six. But I can only get two to thrive. My refugium is in my floor left of the tank. Thats how
    I'm able to grow them.

Yeah I have two growing In mine. They love freshwater. I give em a few mistings a day with Ro water and a 6500k light, they are planted in some sand and theyre growing tall and nicely. Give the roots some space to grow in the box.

Should be. Mangroves grow out of water with their roots in the water. The leaves which absorb it are outside water so they prefer something of a lower spectrum for lighting. Like most plants.
