How long does it normally take for red mangroves to sprout leaves?

Is the tip of the pod out of the water? If submerged fully, it might not ever open.

I've been growing mangroves for a while now on and off and how quick they grow depends on a few different things.

    From my experience:

They like a good amount of flow although they will grow even if the flow is not direct just not as quick.

They don't like a lot of light and indirect light from you fixture / room lighting seems to be best.

The roots don't need to be planted in any substrate and they can be suspended in the water as long as the roots are fully covered.

They seem to like to being sprayed weekly with a water bottle of fresh water to wash any salt creep off the leaves / stems that are exposed to the air.

Sometimes even if they look like they are not growing or healthy, check the roots. If they are strong and seem to be spreading, give the plant a little more time and eventually you will see leaves starting to sprout.

Hope this helps out - I'm no expert but this has seemed to work for me

I rigged up a little holding device that I placed on my overflow while I build my fuge. About 2" of the mangrove is in water (each shoot is 8" or longer). The stalks are rubber banded to eggcrate. They receive indirect sunlight from my fixture and all have roots.

i've got 6 tied to the eggcrate coming out the top of my DT. they all sprouted roots within a week. it's been about 2 months (i think?) and only two have leaves. the roots of the others are still growing but they just don't have leaves. nothing is different between the leafed and non.

I got about 50 3 or so months ago and then about 50 about 2 months ago. The ones from 3 months ago are still sprouting leaves and the ones from 2 monts ago are about 75 percent there. This take time but the roots got huge fast. I acctually thought I lost a couple but then they re rooted and sprouted again.
