I have a 10g, FW, currently, but would like to switch it to SW. Will a 10g be ok for a mantis and say, one small fish? Right now I only one one mean Danio(genetically modified..) that I want to get rid of.

I don't know yet, what kind of mantis I will get. Any ideas? I like color. :)

Should be ok with that size. I would make sure what ever fish you get can get away :). I would stick with Damsels as I have seen my Mantis go after my fish on a regular basis. Last night it looked like it was setting a trap for one of them with a piece of shrimp in front of its hole.

My favorite is the G. Smithi (very colorful, not too large). By far my favorite thing in my tanks.

    Good Luck!

anything BUT a peacock and zebra mantis would work. G. Smithii's are prob the most colorful and staying small.

Gonodactylaceus ternatensis would get my nod for best coloration of commonly available stomatopods. Especially the males. Check out irr001's 10g mantis thread for a very nicely colored specimen.

If you like bright solid colors N. wennerae will usually become a very nice bright green under full spectrum lighting (although they can be a drab rust color as well).

I'm here!.... I just set up a 10 gallon (7 after rock and sand) bowfront, for my little baby mantis... so I'll subcribe here for sure! I look forward to seeing your build when it happens as well, hope you share!

i gave this website to reefmonkey also and I think it would be a great place to check out the different types of mantis available and if you check it often you might get lucky with a brand new addition or something. Also, not sure what your price range is but if its too pricey its still a great way to get some ideas!
