    Trying to capture mantis shrimp...
Pulled rock and tried trap in separate tank- no good
Freshwater dipped rock for 3 minutes- no good
I heard for sure the freshwater dip would work, so I was surprised when it didn't????

    Any other suggestions???

You can try a trap all you want but that never worked for me.

I took out every rock I had one by one untill I was 100% sure the Mantis went back into the hole I thought was his home. Once it was only that one rock and the Mantis shrimp I stuck an air hose into his hole and blew air until he got annoyed enough and came out. Quickly took out the rock and netted him as he tried to swim/run away.

If you catch him don't kill him bring him to your LFS for credit or find a friend who wants him. If you make a species tank for the little guy its pretty cool. Reseach Mantis shrimp they are pretty BA.

I want to keep him... So I'm trying to get him out with out killing him.
He's also in a nice piece of rock I'd rather not destroy. :(

I've heard of some people isolating the rock he is in and then pour some seltzer water on it. Apparently the bubbles rile it up enough to come out.

I think i will give club soda a shot.
Is it possible a a 3 min freshwater dip would not bring him? Or does that mean I have wrong rock?
    Thanks

Club soda didn't work either!! :(
    Is dead in rock??
I'm annoyed because I'm destroying this beautiful piece of live rock and still don't have the mantis out.

wat about just leaving the rock in a bucket with no water for like 5minutes? maybe just use some moist newspaper or something. that always seems to get a lot of invert hitch hikers running

Short spells in fw will nto harm most mantis. They deal with huge salinty swings.for instance getting stuck in a tide pool and then it raining, salinity will go down. Or stuck in a tidepool in the sun with water evaporating, salinity will go up....what kinds of traps have you tried.mantis are very smart.you'll need to stalk him to catch him.listen for his clicks to see when he's hunting.this is the times you should be hunting him.and with alot of trap styles its a 1 time deal.once the mantis learns how to escape he can do so every time.
