i would agree, isn't that scary? i always said if my tank crashes I will either replace with an eel or a mantis, something that makes me afraid to stick my hands in the tank!

Oh btw, Why are mantis shrimp not reef safe? Would it really go after my hammer corals and zoa colonies? Or is it not reef safe because it will kill fish, snails, shrimp, ect.

It most likely won't even kill fish, just snails and crabs mostly. A lot of people keep their stomatopods in reef tanks.

This is a definitively incorrect statement. I had one come in as a hitchhiker about 15 years ago or so and it decimated my fish population. Anything that sleeps in or around rock is fair game for it.

Gee that's funny, it seems everyone who intentionally keeps stomatopods and fish together have no problems, but someone always says they had one decimated their fish population once, or their buddy had a 250 gal tank shattered by one.

Are you sure it was the stomatopod and not the filtration techniques of 15 years ago?

I am not saying its impossible, but all of my stomatopods have hunted during the day and slept right next to a fat juicy damsel all night.

there are different types of mantis shrimp. most fish will be fine around "smashers". However, a large enough "spearer" could be a problem.
