LFS recommended the Marine Buffer at startup...however I'm on good well water....My PH is 8.3 after 1 month and diatoms have just started .....should even use the Buffer? does it have more qualities then just maintaining PH ?

An easy home-made buffer mix is 1 part borax laundry booster to 4 parts arm and hammer baking soda. No point in paying for a label that's the same thing. You'll want to be checking you Alkalinity (and Calcium and Magnesium) levels though, not just your pH.
