Does anyone here use marine snow to feed tank/corals? or do you just go the normal route with food and target feeding some.

Stir up the detritus in your sump and turkey baste your rocks once a week. FREE marine snow. ;)

Nice, Why didn't I think of that?

I think Amcarrig and Tangster have a small, timed powerhead in their sump that comes on at lights out to stir up detritus for corals feeding during the night.

    I might do the same.

I just bought some actually. I received quite a bit of store credit and decided to try it out. I'll let you know if I see any difference. I also do stir my refugium and rock when I clean, it's a good idea.

On the old "experts" forums that used to be on RC, it was considered to be a "snow job" and about 99% water.

hmm... well, I'd say almost any additive is mostly water... including frozen food.

But as far as it being beneficial, it's really tough to say... I put it around my corals a few times a week and they close their polyps. They are either feeding or irritated by it. I would say that it does seem like they go through a growth spurt after I feed them the marine snow, but I have no scientific way of proving that...

I do believe that it has upped my pod population, and it does act as an attractant, as shrimp, fish, and other inverts in the tank really get excited when I add it... so there is something in it that they like. I don't think adding it can hurt anything as long as you aren't adding too much.

Personally, I just add gut loaded rotifers to my tank once a week about an hour after lights out.

I dose WM Snow and amino acids. Can't really say. Pleny of real life ocean science to back it up. I do think it clears the water. I do stir my sump and dose alone too. For what it is I don't think it is too far fetched not to use it, or expensive, or harmful.
