a simple way to make a surface viewer is to use a piece of glass out of a 8x10 photo frame, then lay the glass down on a surface and use Beckett pond foam and outline outer edge of the glass with the foam, buildup a 1" thick rim all the way around the glass, let it harden and then all you have to do is float it ontop of the water, cheap fix, cost is around $2-3 to make one. You can also just float a piece of acrylic on the water surface and it'll do the same. I hate acrylic as the optics are really hard to shoot thru, so try and use glass

I would love to take great pictures with my camera! There is so much you can do with it but at the same time it makes it very confusing and difficult to operate under optimal settings. Macro pictures will have to be done with a separate lens attachment as who can get within centimeters of the subject in an aquarium, without the subject being too blurry?

very pretty! what kind of lights are on your tank?

I use a Nikon:)sweethear) D50 with 18-55 stock lens and have taken some pretty good shots with it. That lens definitly takes better landscapes than macro's, but it'll do me just fine:)

Not true. how close the subject is has nothing to do with the lens, it's how you use the lens and camera settings that matter. I can use a standard, cheapy 18-55mm kit lens and a basic DSLR body and produce outstanding macro images. It's all about the prep work that goes into the image....ie using a tripod, turning off water flow-pumps, cleaning the tank glass, staging the image etc....

I can teach just about anyone in a matter of a day to take great macro images with just about any DSLR
