Background: I purchased my JBJ 28gal. used with everything including all the filter media.

I recently swapped out my top rack filter media with activated carbon to try and increase my water clarity (which worked).

I was curious as to what the previous owner had used so I opened up the bag and I was presented with something that I had never seen before.

It looked like a mixture of activated carbon and....fish eggs. It looked just like roe that you'd find on top of your sushi. I was baffled as I have never come across this before.

Anyone know what this could have been or was it just a home-brew? The previous owner owns his own LFS, by the way, so I'm sure it's entirely possible.

Sounds like it may be Seachem's Seagel

which is a mix of Matrix carbon and Phosguard (which would be the white fish egg looking stuff)
