Hi All, Many of you know I took down my 400G tank about 2 years ago. Well I'm finally ready to start to build another. This time 220G self contained. No crazy fish room or anything like that.

So I went looking for a quote on getting a metal stand built for me and was asked some questions I do not know the answer to.
I've never worked with Metal so I'm wondering if anyone could help with what would be needed.
Design, where supports should be and what size box steel should be used
The tank will be 72x24x30. Id like the stand to be 36 tall

    Thanks
    Jason

What will the shell be to cover it?
Will this be a DIY too?

I would use 2" tubing and make sure to put a few cross members in it and one or two supports on the 72" side.

Its great to see you back in... I know this tank will be stunning!

    Thanks Guys
Haven't decided on the shell yet. Might just do MDF, or get fancy with some type of foil laminate. Got some feelers out and waiting for quotes now

And did you specify that it need to be powder-coated steel to prevent rusting? Or we're you considering building it from aluminum?

The powder coating will probably add a couple hundred to the price

Aluminum would be the optimal way and lighter but just as strong. 8)

I priced Aluminum a few years back for a light hood and it's way over my budget.

I will likely not get it powder coated but instead just painted. I do know A powder coating place that if I didn't care about the colour and paid cash I could just jump in on a run they where already doing for a lot cheaper. I'll have to think about it

for a coating you can use powder coat in a can ond cook the small bits in your oven ;D I know it wont work for all of it but a cheeper solution.

if you painted though I would prime and use somthing like a cheeper marine spray on paint, and use alot of clear coat to keep the rust at bay. they have a gallon of the marine spray one for metal here for about 35.00 for the cheeper stuff.
