Mr. Sparky, from another post from yesterday that I was hoping to have answered.....before I fry my tank!!
OKay, I've never dosed or tested for Mg. I've been trying this out and have been reading the thread religiously. I'm keeping SG @ 1.026. I even went & bought a new Salifert Mg test kit & bottle of Brightwell Aquatics Mg supplement. Using the directions on the bottle, I'm adding 30cc's of Mg to my 60g frag daily. For the past 3 days, very little change. I repeat the test to make sure & relatively the same results.....approx. 1.3ml's of reagent before color change? Any clues, comments or snide remarks?:-/

It takes a LOT of mg supplements to make a difference. Case in hand, my friend has a 55 gallon tank, and it took 80% of a bottle to get it to ~1500. I have a feeling your just not dosing much or going very slowly.

Without more info, I wouldn't think an inability to raise mag over a few days would put one at risk to "fry a tank," but, my first impression is to add more mag, the levels will go up, and although I've read to limit increases to 100 ppm per day, I've also read that mag levels can be raised more drastically than that without danger to tank inhabitants.

I recently raised my Mg ~400 points over about 5 days dosing every other day...

Mg stable at 1470 and did the trick for keeping the other two in check (ca/dkh).

just something to compare to. good luck.

You already are. 1350, for example, is a ppm number.

BTW, in an attempt to get you more good information, I've changed your thread title to "Mg Help Please!!" IMO, the more respondents, the more information, the better!

Ok, so Epsom salts is just as good to boost Mg correct? The bottled supplement was a medium sized bolled. I'm not going to the LFS (payday is Friday). After I'm outta supplement, I'll do like 1/2c Epsom in the overflow.

I agree with above. The danger of over dosing only exists if you are adding enough to raise the levels

If I've read the instruction correctly 1ml will raise the MG in 1 Gallon of water by 26ppm.
So you have a 60G tank so will need 60mls to raise the MG by 26ppm.
So what is your current MG levels and where do you want to be?

This is how I roll sometimes.
I wouldn't start with 1/2 a cup. Add a shot(ounce) of ES and test your water a few hours later/next day. Then you'll know how much more/less to add the next dosing.

    Mg Help.

Trying to accomplish levels from Mag Help threads over past 2-3 days. This is using Calfos stasis analogy from his propagation book.

I'd like to try Mag 1400-1500
    Ca 450-480
    dkh 10-12?:-/
