nothing unusual. one of my bulbs has this and i run it 7 hours a day no problem. it does take the bulb a minute or so and it will gradually brighten to it's fullest.

ok its burning as we speak. Getting real nervous! But it actually looks really cool inside the bulb. And is super bright! the light fixture is upside down in my room and its lighting up the whole place like the suns right outside my window! Pretty impressive with stock light bulb and ballast.

Ok the bulb just made a noise... normal? im keeping it going, but only because you guys said its normal ;)

It sounds like you're describing normal startup for a MH bulb. The bulb is coming up to working temperature, and visual fluctuations are par for the course during the first (up to) several minutes.

Moving thread to reef lighting forum.

just cause it's an odyssea fixture is no reason to get nervous.
