Hi everyone, Just recently upgraded from a 30G to a 110G tank (48Lx31Tx15W) and im not sure what kinda of light i should go with because of the 31inch depth. Id like to be able to place my corals anywhere in the tank but at the same time i dont want have to sell my house to pay for a new light :p
    Thanks.

I think the guys who know what they are talking about (I'm not one of em, lol) will ask what kinds of corals you are keeping, as that will determine your lighting requirements.

Being in Canada, I see your point about having to sell the house to afford a good MH fixture. The markup is quite sickening. I just got the 36" MH/T5HO combo from fishneedit.com. You will not find a lower price. I will be writing a mini review in the next couple of days on it.

I would go MH with that depth. You could probably get away with a 6 bulb T5 but it will still put some limits on what you can have lower in the tank.

    +1 for the MH

T-5s have a max depth of about 28"

If you would like to be a little more budget friendly go T5. Metal halide looks more like real daylight and is for more light demanding SPS. Although you may be able to grow sps with either.

At the moment i have a variety of coral but they are still in my 30G. Im looking to have just sofites in the 110G.
I know nothing about MH, but couldn't i just take a "flood light" and just change out the type J bulb for an aquarium friendly one?

If you just doing softies, then you can do T-5. Will save a lot on your electric bill. Plus a lot more color options.
