    I bought a very nice little flame angel for my tank. He was very happy but disappeared one day. I guess he died but I don't know. He isn't in my overflow and now where in my tank. Then I got a starry blenny and a yellow cromis wrasse. Blenny is doing fine but haven't seen the wrasse for 2-3 days. Should I count him as gone also? What does everyone think? I was told it is probably someone bulling him. I was also made the suggestion to set up a video camera to see what goes on. My camera only does one hour at a time. I am gone for 4. What are anyones thoughts?

    Found this article about the fish;

    These are one of the most beautiful angelfish that can be aquired by a hobbyist. They have a wonderful reputation as angels go and are usually very hardy, however lately that has not been the case and I would suggest avoiding this fish. They have not been very hardy lately and quite a few of them have been dying within a few months of being in an aquarium, despite many good efforts to save them. Like all angels, to keep them healthy they need a good and varied diet with pristine water conditions. They also need a well established tank with algae so they can graze, which means at least 6 months for a new tank. They also like a good water current to play in. They are reef safe within limits, there are some angels who regardless of what kind will pick on clam mantles, soft or hard corals, polyps, etc, while others will not. When an angel gets established in a tank there is a chance they will bully new arrivals. It is best to have one angel per system but if you must add another make sure you have enough space and they are not the same colour or even close or they will fight.

    Heres another article;

    One of the most colorful and attractive of the commonly available marine angelfishes is the Dwarf Flame Angel fish. It has a striking red or orange body with vertical black bars in the mid section. The good news is that the Flame Angel fish only gets to be about 4 inches (10 cm) or so and can be the prize specimen in any tank. The bad news is that they can be fairly expensive, they don't ship very well, and may bully other dwarf angelfishes or smaller tank mates.

    Flame Angel fish need a tank with moderate to high water circulation, better than average water quality (very low or zero nitrates) and plenty of live rock. They will graze on the live rock in between meals and use any hiding places provided by the live rock when they feel threatened.
    When it comes to eating, they are not as picky as some other saltwater fish. They seem to really like the frozen marine foods, live and flake foods. Definitely plan on using some dried algae supplements if not enough is present on the live rock in your tank to avoid any nutritional disorders.
    Unfortunately, Flame Angels are often shipped with some type of saltwater fish disease and the use a quarantine tank before introducing them into your main tank is a must. Because Flame Angel fish can be quite expensive (though not as expensive as some of the larger saltwater angelfish) it is a good idea to ask the fish store to hold them for a couple of weeks before you bring them home. As far as reef tank compatibility goes, some reefers have kept them with no problems at all and some had to remove them because they were picking at the corals or clams. Luna

    Thank you for that info. The LFS store had the angel for 3 weeks and was doing well there. I know he is gone but my question is about the chromis. How long should I wait for him since I know they burrow under the sand, for him to come out. Or should I count him as gone now also?

    i wouldnt worry too much right now, you are correct, they love to dive in the sand. he should show up sometime soon, if you look hard enough, you might see 2 eyes poking out of the sand at night.

    My flame angel disappeared one day also. I looked around and couldn't find him. I thought the anenome must have gotten him. So I decided to do some rearranging, moved some rock, took some of those big snail shells out of the tank, etc........guess who was hiding in the snail shell? Took a few days to start stinking, but then I knew where he went!!!!

    Well I know now, not because I found a body but because it has been over a week, that my friend coris wrasse is gone. He was soo cute.....why would I be losing fish like this? Maybe I just wasn't meant to have them! But I feel bad. I lost one of my 5 year old angels in my FW last night also. I'm having a bad couple of fish weeks!!!

    I've lost two Sixline Wrasse's and two Green Chromis since I've had my tank. The only thing in common I can think of is that they all stayed in the rocks or around them. I'm thinking there is something in the rocks that I can't see that is getting them. Could be a possibility for you to since you said they hid in the rocks. I haven't had any problem with any of my other fish including my Green Mandarin that stays in the rocks which is wierd.
