Redid my lighting system for X-mas this year (new Outer Orbits 2x 250W MH with 4x T5s) and had to lose my canopy due to size and heat concerns on my 65 gal high.

Now I know that Midas blennies (awesome fish, full of personality, and my 5-month old daughter's favorite) can jump, so I thought to myself "I'd better drag my butt to Home Depot tomorrow and get some egg crate"...

Got up the next morning and "Mr. Longtail" (aptly named by my daughter with help from Mommy and Grandma) was MIA. Didn't think much of it, thought he may have been in the rock, or underneath a powerhead cover, where he liked to lounge. Ran to HD, picked up the $6.00 egg crate, got out the tin snips, measured, marked, and cut it.

I picked up my daughter's new exersaucer (which coincidentally was sitting next to the tank) to move it so I could put the crate on top of the tank... and there was Mr. Longtail, shriveled up on the floor.

Moral of the story- buy the egg crate BEFORE you get too excited about taking off your canopy!

Thinking about splurging on a blue dot jawfish as a replacement... anyone have any experience?

Sorry for your loss. We have a few jumpers as well but for some reason they always jump into the overflow. Our Starry Blenny has jumped in the overflow twice, our six line wrasse has jumped once, and our Flame Hawkfish has jumped 4 times...8)

Ditto on the loss of your blenny. I also have one and he/she's great. Welcome to 3Reef. BTW, ALL newbies have 48 hrs to post pics of their tanks. Failure to do so, will result in you buying ALL of us a new coral of our choice. :hehe:
