I finally decided this morning to see what all the hype is on the other side of the skimmer argument. In my habit of over-filtering on this project I decided to go with a Coralife 125. Took, my ignorant to skimmer self, awhile to get it up and running. Im dry skimming to see how that goes.

I'm very curious about your tank.
First i have to compliment you on the look of your tank. Spectacular!

I have a 29 GAL acrylic with a hang on filter. I do not run a protein skimmer. I've got about 35 to 40lbs of LR.
My lighting is 96 watts 50/50 compact flourescent.

Live stock is 1 bi-color blennie, green blennie, blackray shrimp gobie, brownbarred gobie and some other flesh colored gobie, along with a false perc Clownfish.
I want to have a dense coral tank along the lines of what you have(dreaming).

My question is, i've got a spare 150w MH that i can add but i cannot imagine that it will not present a heating issue.
How do you deal with this in your tank? I see you say you have no heating issues.
Also, do you think the hang on cartridge filter will be enough along with the LR?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Nice brain mike!

evojoe: I have not seen a heating issue with halides that a fan couldnt fix, unless you are in a really warm state or keep your house ridiculously hot. I had my house at 80 over this summer and have 2 250w over my tank. It got up to 83 once that was without a fan. Put a $7 wal mart fan on it and no issues. Now I would make sure your halide is a few inches off the water of course.

Thanks for the suggestion.I thought a 150MH would be cooking things.
The tank i've got is semi closed on top, meaning it has a 13" slot cut along the back that i've got the hang on filter in and a 20" hole in the middle that the Florescent is over.
I'll have to move the florescent forward and place the MH behind it.

I'm also really concerned with the filtration.
I really don't have room for a fuge under the tank since the stand that goes with the tank only has a small space for storage.
I had no plans on a Protein Skimmer and do not like the look of them inside the tank.
So what do you think about the filtration? The cartrages do have carbon in the but not much.

I ran my tank for about a year with only live rock and an HOB filter. During that time I was doing about a 10% water change every week. I never had any nitrate problems and my corals were happy. I did not however try any of the more sensitive corals then.
