Okay, so I travel for work usually 2-3 days a week. While I am gone, my wife "watches" the fish tank...bascially tops off with fresh water, checks for leaks and drops some food in the tank. She is great, I cant complain. She does not really look at the fish though...so here is the situation.

I left on Monday...got back last night...now my Kole Tang is gone...no where to be seen. I can not find him anywhere in the tank or on the ground surrounding the tank. Last confirmed sighting was 4 AM Monday morning.

I noticed that my Skimmer produced a ton of Skimmate...so my bet is the fish is dead...but no body remains. I dont have any anemones or anything like that that would eat it straight up...but I have a a bunch of hermit crabs (20 or so and they are active)..it is a 120 gallon tank. Do you all thank it is possible the hermits picked the fish to the bone? And in 1-3 days?

Ill be testing the water regularly looking for water parameter changes...and will be doing a water change tomorrow (do them bi-weekly and tomorrow luckily is the day for this tank anyway). Do I need to be worried about anything else?

Also, not sure on the cause of death...I had the fish for about a month..I will say although he ate well...he was always a very nervous fish...I think he just did not adapt well to captivity...which is sad....

Man that sucks, I'm sorry. Are you able to check under the rocks to see if it was trapped under there? Tangs do like to hide. I had a baby hippo that would always lay flat under the rock until it got stuck one day. It freaked out when it couldn't get out, came down with some serious ick and died the next day.

    Sorry for your loss

I had a Kole wind up missing as well. He was perfectly fine one day and the next he was gone...Not sure what happened....One thing to remember is that tangs are herbivores and require a much higher level of algae, plants, etc...They will eat whatever you feed the tank but their diet should consist of a lot of algae, etc....We replaced him with a Chevron tang....
