So, yesterday my beloved Lefty, a yellow tang with only 1 pectoral fin, stayed hidden in the rocks even at meal time. This is the fish that always came out to greet me and the very 1st to eat out of my hand. For the brief time I did coax him out I could see absolutely nothing wrong with him. This morning I get up to do the usual routine and no Lefty comes out. I get the flashlight and look all over, even moved some rock looking for a corpse. Nothing.:bigcry: The only thing in the tank that may have gotten him would be the carpet anenome, except when he eats he usually gets bulgy. Nothing going on with him.

Tank mates all appear fine and active.

My question is, if the anenome did eat the tang would I have an ammonia spike? And when would I expect to start seeing a spike?

Nah it probably died and all your worms and snails just ate it up. I have had fish completely vanish without a trace and that's the reason. You shouldn't see any kind of ammonia spike.

Bummer. SO sorry to hear that. Crazy thought that the clean up crew can take down a fish overnight.

My yellow tang, when it died, ended up with it's tail end in my condy anemone and it's front end getting chewed up by my large hermit crab. I should have taken a picture of it. When a meal presents itself, the other members of the flock waste no time in gorging themselves. Sorry for the loss man. I never did find my lawnmower blenny when he passed.

Thanks everyone, life cycles I guess. Sometimes we just don't like the way it does that. I surely miss the guy and the family keeps telling me to get another fish, but not ready yet. Guess that is kind of silly. oh well.
