So I have a quick question about running my moonlights. Currently I have them running most of constantly on because I dont have a timer for them yet, and they add a nice color to my tank while the daylights are on. Is it ok to run them all night or should I put them on a timer to cut them off for most of the night? My moonlights are 2 3w royal blue led's from rapid btw

Most people say to only leave them on for an hour or two before and after your mains are on. It's good to have darkness for a couple hours because the moonlights are too bright to really simulate moonlight.

You can leave them on at all times your full spectrum lights are on. I leave my moonlights on for 2 hours before and after the full spectrum light cycle to simulate sunrise and sunset :)

You'll hear a lot of differing opinions about moonlights and lunar cycles, but IMOPE, it's mostly a personal choice as your livestock will adapt. FTR, I leave mine on all night; my fish still go into the rocks to sleep and my nocturnal critters come out to scavenge.

If we speak about nature..the moon can be up in the sky even on midday. The rise and set times of the moon as well as its intensity depend on the time of the year and the day of the month. Neither keeping the moonlight on for the whole night or for 2 hours would do anything for your fish and corals..it just doesn't replicate nature.

I'm using a coralife power compact fixture and it has 4 or 5 blue leds. I run them 24/7.

Thanks everyone! I think that I am just going to let them run 24/7, they add a really nice color to my tank! Ill put them on a timer if I ever get into a controller set up, but until then I think they will stay on!
