moving a BTA

well ive got this problem with my bta, he thought it would be cool to plant down right under my power filter about 1/4 inch from the top of the water. its been there for 2 weeks now and loving it, but im hating it. i have to be really carefull with the water changes. ive heard you can turn the power right on the anemone and make it move, but i dont want you hurt it. when i let it out of the bag it just walked around the back of the tank and went right up the back. any help would be great,

There are a couple of methods I know of that I have had good success with removing anemones from rocks or glass.

1) massage its foot with your finger very gently until it shrinks up and lets go. This should take about 5 minutes and should be done with care. (watch your fingernails!)

2) This method I actually prefer. Lower your water level to lower than where the anemone is at, you said it was at the top yeah? Bring the water down until the anemone is all the way out of the water. It will close up and start moving down, at this point it should be easy to remove from the glass.

I would leave him alone. When you add an anemone, you have to let it choose it's spot. You will regret it when the anemone becomes unhappy and shrinks. It will get scared and hide off. That's the downside. Sometimes you want the anemone to plant itself in a certain spot, but it might not like it. You have to let it be.

 

well its not that i have a planed spot for it, i just dont want to have to worry about it every time i do a water change. i know anemones move, and i dont care about that, i dont have any corals yet(or well big ones). ill give it another week, and see if it moves. thanks

What is your concern with doing water changes? Is it because you'll be lowering the water level to where the anemone is out of the water? If that's the case, I wouldn't worry about it. Just do your water changes and if the anemone doesn't like what happens during your water changes, it'll move.

 

well sounds good to me. I was just worried I would hurt or kill the anemone with it out of water for a min or so. but it likes that spot, and it is the closest posible spot to the light, so more power to it, lol.

Nothing will happen to it as long as you dont keep it for more than 15 minutes I would guess. With water changes, he will be out of water for a few minutes (depends on your tank). He'll be alright. When I do a water change, some coral is left outside of the water, nothing happens. They come right out as soon as the water level is back.

 

When I had an anemone it moved to a rock next to my softy and was stinging it. I took the rock out of the water, held it upside down over the tank, and in 5-10 minutes the anemone detach itself and relocated. If your anemone in not happy out of the water he will move right away. I'm more worry about it being right under your power filter.
