im debating two mp20's. one on either side of my 75gal, or one mp40.

im not sure if the mp20's can 'synchronize'?

i like the aesthetics of the vortech line versus huge koralias in my tank. but dont want to shell out $800 for two mp40w's just so they can be synchronized...

maybe i dont need synch.... i dunno

I would go with 2 MP 20s, but I don't know if they can be synchronized.

I believe the difference between the 20's and 40's is the ability to synchronize them and their computers abilities.

I don't believe they can be linked. Even if they are not linked, it would still make for some sweet currents. It might actually be better for the corals. The cycles would constantly overlap each other and cause ebbs and swells, in a very random pattern.

I agree, all that's going to do is make it even more random, which is what these pumps are made to do anyway. As long as you are not buying them to make waves, I would say go with the un-synced MP20's.

MP20's can't be synched, they also have some slight other differences, propeller sizes and overall amount of power I believe.

2 MP20's would be better than one MP40 IMO even though you can't synchronize them. You will still get great random flow although if they both hit their peak power at once you may find your sandbed moving around a little but you may be able to turn them down a little bit or just deal with it, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

In the future you could upgrade them as well to MP40's so you wouldn't be starting from scratch to upgrade, you would just have to shell out another couple (hundred) dollars.
