Okay, in Febuary we closed down our freshwater tank and decided to start up another SW. We cleaned out everything and added 15lbs of sand. A week later we added a piece of LR and let that sit for a month. I then decided to start adding pieces of LR to cycle for my tank. We used some of my water from my 55g to fill this tank.

Today we added 2 damsels and 2 more pieces of LR.

We have decided we want to keep this a fish only tank with shrimps. Now I have a 55g reef tank so I want to know with a fish only tank do you still do the required 1-2lbs LR or is less than that okay. Also is it necessary with a FW to have a skimmer or can you do it with a power filter?

As a surprise we got some mushrooms on the LR we picked up today, will these get by with NO fluorescents and can anyone recommend a good bulb for NO?

    thanks so much.

I would stay with the 1-2 lbs/gal of LR. Since it's a fish only tank you'll still need the biological activity if not more so since you'll probably stock it heavier. Shrooms are usually low light demanding & they will be ok under NO bulbs.
