My cheap DIY overflow

    So I know its about beat to death, but I'm just so damn giddy that I got this built. I'm pretty new to the hobby, but I had a tank crash in August of this year and new it was time to upgrade to some real filtration. Bummed a 10 gallon tank from a friend, stole my 400 GPH pump out of my pond, and spent about $7 on PVC at Lowe's.

    That piece that sticks up to nowhere......is that used to start the siphon?

    Pharmrjohn - yes, I decided not to drill the small hole and put in the check valve/airline. partly because I dont have a venturi power head, partly because I didnt want the hastle of a potential leak.

    I had my wife just cover the outlet in the sump with a couple fingers and gave the tube a suck - presto - siphon.

    Nice overflow. I can't wait to use mine.. i just gotta build my sump/refugium. Thats a 1" pvc pipe right? and its holding well for a 400gph pump?
