I thought about doing something like this but as the mangroves grow I thought that they might be choked by the egg crate.

That looks awesome! Those Mangroves look familiar........lol

Most likely that wont happen b/c the seed doesnt get to grow big enough to cause that.

Looks good - should work well for you.

Many moons ago I used Styrofoam for my mangroves, they grow well and do a somewhat adequate job of thriving off of nitrates – I assume this is the result you are after? Keep us posted of your results including a time line.

I did mine somewhat the same way What are you using for a ligh and bulb type? looks like a home depot style clamp on if it is what do you use for a bulb? I have not been able to get a good lighting. I am trying to set up my36 in sundial over the fuge but its not fitting... The only difference on my setup from your pictures I have my chateo under mine. Looks great though.

yep I'm using an hd clamp lamp. it grows the crap outta my chaeto and from what I understand (correct me if I"m wrong) mangroves don't need any more light than chaeto does. If this is the case I should be ok. I'm just using a CF floodlight with the built in reflector. it does a great job and doesn't get too hot.

    Wow!!

Nice set-up Daniel. Can you give us a little more info on your lighting from HD? "CF floodlight w/built in reflector"......?? What is "CF"? And this is just a clamp on reflector?
    Thanks....
