I'd finally had enough with overpowering algae, dying SPS, and suffering LPS. So... I ordered a Typhoon III, which will be here Monday. Any experience with the Typhoon III. It is rated for 75 GPD. How much clean water will it produce daily, and how many gallons of waste water? With very clean tap water, how long will the filters last (I recognize there may be no way to tell)

Its a pretty good RO/DI system. The production will vary based on your water temerature and water pressure. They are designed to produce 75 gallons in a full 24 hour period at 77 degree F water temperature and 50 psi water pressure and 250 ppm TDS softened tap water. Most of us don't have 77 degree wate rso production can be less. DO NOT try to blend or temper hot and cold water together, this is the easiest way to ruin a membrane there is.
Waste is 4 gallons per every 1 good gallon it produces. This is pretty standard in the industry.

It can be hooked to a kitchen faucet using an adapter, hooked to the cold water inlet on the washing machine using a hose thread wye like I do or mounted permanently with the coldwater line tapped with a self tapping saddle valve or a tee inserted in the line. Lots of options.

The prefilter and carbons are recommended to be replaced every 6 months, the membrane should last 3+/- years and the DI is entirely dependent on your water conditions and how much water you make.
Remember to always disinfect the system when changing filters.

When you say not to mix hot and cold water, do you mean don't turn on both faucets, as in, if you turn on the hot and cold each a little to make warm water? If I shouldn't do this should I use hot or cold water? I've also read that I shouldn't use the first water the system produces. True or false?

You should use cold water only, whatever temperature it comes out of the faucet.
Have you ever been in the shower all nice and comfortable when someone flushes the toilet, or starts the washing machine, or maybe the yard sprinklers? You got your tush scalded more than likely. Thats exactly what happens to an RO membrane when your try to blend hot and cold and they will melt or become delaminated at anything over 113 degrees. 113 is not all that hot either.

I don't know if the Typhoon comes with all the directions but you should do as follows.
    1. Remove the two carbons, screw the empty housings back on and disconnect the 1/4" line leading from the last carbon block to the RO membrane housing.
    2. Hook it to cold water and flush the prefilter to waste for severaql gallons to flush away the glues and binders.
    3. Install the first carbon and do the same flushing away any carbon fines or dust.
    4. Install the second carbon block and do the same so now the prefilter and both carbons are flushed without contaminating the membrane.
    5. Hook the line to the membrane housing back up and disconnect the line to the DI filter or just remove the DI filter from its housing.
    6. Flush the RO membrane for 3 to 5 gallons. This can take an hour or so so don't get in a hurry. Watch the TDS readin andwhen it drops to about 2 or 3% of the tap water TDS its flushed.
    7. Reconnect the DI or install the cartridge and flush the complet RO/DI for another gallon or so to rinse up the DI resin. Again watch the TDS, it shoulddrop to 0 TDS. You are now ready to make water!
