I am a martial artist, and have/am training a few different styles. Unfortunately due to illness/injury I haven't be working out for about a month, but tonight rocked. after 3 hours of class (I taught for one hour so it wasnt too taxing) i rolled with a black belt buddy of my, uhh, not a brazilian jujitsu black belt but that was what we were practicing.
After twenty five minutes I had 5 submission under my belt. Two leg triangles (one with each leg, never tried one with my left leg), two head and arm chokes, and a wierd almost-armbar that might have been a gooseneck... anyway he tapped from it. It was a sweet night and I cant wait to go back.

Yeah I was about to say that.. I'm a ( or was) a red belt in karate. Don't remember the style. I had to quit because we moved.. Haven't gotten the chance to go back. It's pretty sweet to kick butt without actually hurting someone.

I took my fiancee to the pub to watch UFC and she want to learn BBJ, which is awesome because it means I can train more since it wont cut into together time! Yeah I was doing really well tonight for some reason. I think I just really missed it. I'm not 'good' by any means but i think I might call myself competent, but being as i went with a heavy Gi and he was no gi, felt like i didnt make any noob mistakes ;-)

Yeah it takes pretty long. I remember it took me a while to be able to take the extra protection things we used. Once I got the hang of it I was able to go to tournaments and such. It was amazing! I really miss it. If you leaved any closer I would go to your class lol. Miss sparring...

yeah its been a staple of my life for the past couple year. My female unit is getting ready for her first tourny. She wants to do sparring, kata, and breaking, though we would need to do alot of work with the braking since she hasn't doesnt alot of it

I studied as well, but just didn't have the time since I work 6 days a week. Too bad I love it.. It has been a mixture of Vee Arnis Jujitsu, Kenpo, MMA, Kick Boxing, & Grappling.

Check out this video. My instructor trained with him & learned from Master Vee himself. I had the pleasure in 1999 going to Cleveland, OH where Master Vee in which he had past earlier that year & my professor were inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

yeah jhon, he makes a great point bout the difference between self defence and fighting. I always stress that durring sparring. His techniques remind me of a program I have trained a bit called TFT (Target Focus Training) which is just breaking down and cuaseing trama to the person assulting you. The main difference between self defense and fighting for me is figuring out if im dealing with social violence or an antisocial or asocial sociopathic assailant. I might attempt less violent techniques (timelocks joint manipulation or grappling) with someone in a bar that gets mad because I stepped on his foot or whatever and cant downgrade through buying him a drink etc.. (social violence) because I can read certain escilation elements in the interaction. Someone who doesnt follow a predicitble pattern who might seriously injur/kill me is getting a thumb to the back of his eye socket a ruptured testicle from my knee and then what else I see.

Long story short I think it would ROCK to take a few hour seminar with Master Vee
