It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Stock 28 gal JBJ.

Korailla #2 and #4 and no skimmer.

Chemipure elite and a sponge for mechanical filtration.

I recommend the Tunze DOC 9002 skimmer.

I do not like LR rubble or ceramic rings after trying both and seeing the amount of detritus accumulation over a couple of months.

I was thinking that would happen as well. I have 2 biocube 14's with the bioballs still in there. I have heard that they will become nitrate factories, which I can see why they would. What do you recommend?

I have seen good evidence that ceramic rings do a efficient job as a medium for the biological filter, so I am still very much on the fence regarding their use.

I have used bio-balls, rings, rubble and it all accumulated too much detritus for my liking and removing all of the above had no detrimental effect on my water quality as long as I removed them over the space of a couple weeks in stages and not all at the same time.

I am a huge fan of the Berlin system: Skimmer, adequate amount of LR and use of carbon. I love the science of reactors, ULNS and such, but I have found for my busy life simple works best for me. Personally I see no significant use for bio-ball and ring type of media unless it's in larger wet/dry type of systems (very old school).

It's only a personal opinion and experience and does not apply to all tanks( Hey how is that for a disclaimer. :)
