anyone have suggestions for lighting a 10 gallon tank?the one on my daughters tank is not sufficiant.i'm looking for something arround 40 watts.so far i only see the satelite fixture and i've owned one.it was too loud and i did'nt like their bulbs, one bulb was 6500/1000 and a actinic.i want either 50/50 ,or one 10'000k and one actinic.this tank is in my daughters room so i'm not taking chances on the odyssea.i would concider a mh but she don't need it and they don't make t5 ho that small.

Check with Coralife, I'm sure they make a power compact fixture for a 10 gallon tank...They are a very reliable, reputable and dependable company with nice equipment IMO!

thanks and your right coralife has great lights.right now i have their 28w pc over the tank.they have a 28 watt and then a 65 watt quad light but nothing in between for a 20 inch long tank.i'd rather not get another 28watt cause they don't have fans and 2 fixtures would completely cover the tank.i'm going to try orbit but i think they reduced their number of models.i'm also thinking on a clamp on mh but their alot more money and my daughters a bit clutsy and messy.i don't want her to have a hot mh bulb in her room.

awesome can't wait to hear how they work out for you. i saw the solaris units and those are way to expensive, as funds permit i will be converting over to the leds 100%

will do.i'll let you know how they work when they arrive.i will be putting up a build thread actually.i replaced the bottom of a new 10 gallon tank with half inch thick acrylic and drilled it for an over flow and return and siliconed half a black 5 inch wide pvc pipe arround the overflow and return to hide them.the 10 gallon display will now be the sump with chaetto in it.i already have the plans drawn up for the LED retrofit.

ok the LED light arrived and its pretty cool.it has a narrow spot light effect so you can only have a cpl inches of space between each 6 by 8 inch panel, which means i have to by a 2nd panel to light up the 10 gallon tank.you could use this light to spotlight spessific corals if you wanted.it does run cool enough to let the bulbs or anodes lay in the palm of your hand and you get the shimmering effect of a mh light.also the lights penetrate very deep, like shining a maglight into the tank.i got the 50/50 type light and the actinic side of it is very strong, making a very crisp light with noticeable actinic.all you have to do is attach it to something and plug it in.reflectors are pointless because the anodes only shine in one direction.all in all it was a more expensive way to light a 10 gallon tank than a power compact.i think its neet though and i'm getting the second panel rather than sending it back.i'm keeping my t5 lights on my 55 gallon for sure though.

you forget these leds will last for years and years where you would have to pay for new bulbs every 6months. also the power draw is substantially less. and i know on the page they receomend 2 panels for the 10 gallon tank.

    2.5 gallon: 12"X6"X8"
    - 1 panel

    5.5 gallon: 16"X8"X10"
    - 2 panels

    10 gallon: 20"X10"X12"
    - 2 panels
    - 3 panels

    20 gallon high: 24"X12"X16"
    - 4 panels
    - 6 panels

    20 gallon long: 30"X12"X12" or
    29 gallon: 30"X12"X18"
    - 4 panels
    - 6 panels

    30 gallon long: 36"X12"X17"
    - 5 panels
    - 8 panels

    30 gallon breeder: 36"X18"X12",
    40 gallon breeder: 36"X18"X16", or
    50 gallon : 36"X18"X18"
    - 8 panels
    - 10 panels

    40 gallon: 48"X13"X16" or
    55 gallon: 48"X13"X20"
    - 10 panels
