ok well my wife came home with a surprise 10 gallon tank for me, so I guess I am doing a 10 gallon nano. Do you think the HOB filter turned into a fuge would be good enough for a tank this size? or am I better off drilling it adding a sump/fuge? Secondly if I do drill it, what size pvc should I use?

also wanted o ask another question about lighting. would the par38 LED light be enough for a 10 gallon?

Just looking to do this right and not make the mistakes from the past. So any input on drilling vs. HOB fuge? I just ran the Filter I could use for the Fuge and it runs smooth and quite, I did trim down the propeller to slow the flow but look kinda fast still to me. If drilling it is the way to go, would a 3/4 hole work for a bulkhead on this size tank?

3/4 in my opinion is plenty. If u have room for a sump then maybe that should be the way to go. On my 10g it sits on the kitchen counter so I don't have any choice but hang on stuff. What are you gunna do for lighting? What kinda corals u wann keep? I'm at the same stage in my 10g build as you. Trying to get everything together.

Well I have thought it over, and I am gonna do the HOB fuge because I have that, a powerhead, heater, Baserock, and everything I need to get it up and running except the light. I plan on doing a PAR30 LED from the sponsor here at 3reef. 1 should work for now and might do two. Now all I have to do is get the flow slow enough on my HOB filter to make a good working fuge.

Check out my build thread on my 10g.
I cut up a mailbox to use as a false overflow. To hide the intake for the hob filter and to hide the heater. U should try it out. So far mine coming along good and it will make the tank look way better with nothing visible.

ok well here is my tank and HOB filter/fuge. minus the pig bank holding the HOB in place. I plan on painting the back wall Blue and painting the Fuge black or something so the light doesnt shine into the main tank. the light is the one I will use for the Fuge, its a 24w 50/50 right now but they make 6700k bulb for it. then the PAR30 over the main tank. I am not goona do any drilling. The heater should fit fine in the fuge, so in this setup, I will have the PH and intake from the Fuge as the only pieces in the tank.
