i was looking on ebay for corals and this guy said he had a 12 gal. nano-reef. What is that? Why would you want a reef that small?

Ya it's just a 12G reef. I had a 10G for a bit. They are actually quit a challenge. Water evap can take the whole chemistry out of Wack. Quite fun though. There is a whole web forum dedicated to Nano tanks.

they are actually quite popular but a lot more difficult then a larger tank. one problem is some people want to jump right into a nano and thats not the best idea since water parameters can change so much and so fast. but for someone with some experince it couild be a challenge for them

Why would you wnat to call yourself "hottielover14"? Personal preference my friend. The nano society is a large one, and the fastest growing portion of our industry/hobby currently. Bigger isn't always better.

55 gal reefs are like pinheads in the ocean, you're a reefer open your mind to "not so" new things. Who wouldn't want a reef tank on their desk at work or home? I started with a 5.5 gal tank, now i have a 20 long with a 20 high sump (holds maybe 10 gal).

Go talk to the guys at:

They will show what a nano is really about. Some of the most beautiful tanks I have seen are nano's.
